Event Recap: The Lady Lions cross country team had an absolute blast at the Manhattan Invitational on Saturday, October 14th, on the famed Van Cortlandt Park 2.5 mile course. The Manhattan Invitational, one of the biggest XC meets in the United States, brought together over 10,500 runners from 17 states, including Canada. Many of the best teams in the country make the annual trek to "Vanny" to run on the historic course. Sarabeth Spitzer, a standout on the Middle School Cross Country team, ran to an impressive 43rd place showing, out of 125 strong runners in the 7th/8th grade race. The JV team placed 21st, out of 49 teams. The Varsity squad, running against some of the top teams in the Northeast, was 16th, out of 35 teams in their race. Freshman sensation Antonia Woodford (9) roared to a team-best time of 17:42, taking 71st place, and earning a coveted Manhattan Invite medal in the process. Malenie Walker (12) finished 97th in a time of 18:34. Sachi Sobti (11) took 112th with a time of 18:53.20. Alexa Schwarz continued her fine rookie campaign, running 19:25, for 121st. Anna Chithelen was close behind in 126th place, with a time of 19:46. Co-Captain Sonya Chandra rounded out the scoring, taking 130th, in a time of 19:54. |
